Music Licensing and Video Copyright

Recently cited by the Wall Street Journal in a Cover Page article, RADIO ABEOKUTA is fully licensed to webcast music on the internet. SOUNDEXCHANGE has granted RADIO ABEOKUTA a STATUTORY LICENSE to webcast Music, in accordance with the authority given to SOUNDEXCHANGE under the Small Webcaster Settlement Act of 2002 and pursuant to Sec. 6 of The Copyright Royalty and Distribution Reform Act of 2004. Accordingly RADIO ABEOKUTA is also registered with the US Copyright Office. On this basis, RADIO ABEOKUTA pays licensing fees to SOUNDEXCHANGE in respect of music royalties. With respect to international music royalties, SOUNDEXCHANGE works in cooperation with other national Music Royalty collection agencies under the umbrella of INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE PHONOGRAPHIC INDUSTRY (IFPI) which include accredited representative organizations from countries where musicians and record labels whose music is webcast on RADIO ABEOKUTA originates, including Nigeria, the United Kingdom etc.

RADIO ABEOKUTA is the ONLY internet radio website streaming Yoruba, Nigerian or West African music that has obtained a statutory license to webcast music on the internet. All music streamed via Radio Abeokuta (since it's establishment) on the 6th of February 2002 is covered under licensing fees/royalties paid every month via Live365 to ASCAP, BMI & SESAC. Radio Abeokuta respects and honors the intellectual property rights of recording artists and their record labels. Accordingly the audio and visual content on this website is kept secure and protected by the prevention of downloading (including progressive downloads) with the employment of streaming technology.

RADIO ABEOKUTA retains full copyright ownership in respect of it's original Yorùbá video drama production projects whose PRODUCTION COSTS were fully paid for by RADIO ABEOKUTA and which are streamed on it's website. Similarly, the other Yorùbá videos on this website are streamed with written permission of the relevant producers - Oyedele Nig. Ltd and ARFH ( permission letters are publicly exhibited on this website). Please note RADIO ABEOKUTA is a not-for-profit, non-commercial hobby dedicated to the promotion of Yorùbá language and culture, accordingly, listeners are not charged any fees or levies for accessing any of Radio Abeokuta's Yorùbá audio or video streams.
